Phosphorus Pentasulphide is a very important intermediary used for the preparation of organic compounds containing both sulphur and phosphorus, it is used in the manufacture of lubricant additives, mining flotation agents and insecticides/pesticides.
By virtue of its special unique manufacturing process the product is characterised by a very high purity. The product can be also supplied with a very low level of As contaminants (< 10 p.p.m. guaranteed).
Reactivity is the most important aspect of phosphorus pentasulphide. The choice of a low or high reactivity product is linked to the type of reaction desired; this key parameter can be controlled and adjusted during production according to customers’ requirements.
Phosphorus Pentasulphide is produced in either yellow powder in a range of different particle sizes or flake form.
The product is supplied in tightly sealed 2-ton containers (tote or flow bins) or in 200-250 kg steel drums with removable lid (ring and bolt closure). Packaging conforms to the UN regulations for the transportation of dangerous materials.
Applications
Lubricant additives: phosphorus pentasulphide is the key raw material in the production of the very important class of lubricant additives, zinc-dithio-phosphates (ZDDP).
Mining flotation agents: sodium, potassium, calcium or ammonium salts of dialkyldithiophosphoric acids are widely used as flotation promoters and collectors in mineral recovery processes, for the separation of metals by flotation from metal sulphides and precious metal ores.
Insecticides and Fungicides: A complete family of products synthesised from phosphorus pentasulphide is used as agricultural pest control agents. This family includes relatively non-toxic products, such as Malathion, and others, for example Parathion, of non-persistent, albeit high toxicity. |
